自ら誓って曰く

正法眼蔵 行持 （ ４３ ）
時に脇尊者、諸々の譏議 ki-gi を聞いて
因みに時の人に謝して、而 sika も自ら誓って曰く
我 若 mo し、三蔵の理を通ぜず
三界の欲を断ぜず、六神通を得ず
八解脱具せずば、終に脇を以て席に至 tu けじ
はりしば尊者
八十歳で仏道を志す
それはどう受け止められたか？
老人の戯言であり、無理なお話し
a Buddhist saint called ' HARISIBA'
At the age of 80,
he decided to become a Buddhist
How was it received?
That it is the ravings of an old man
and an impossible story.
この非難の声を耳にし
それを理解し、お詫びします
そしてこの方は自らに誓います
道を得るまで、横になって寝ることはせず
This person hears this accusation.
This person understands
and apologizes for it.
And this one made a vow to himself
Not to lie down and sleep
until he had obtained the Way.
