そもそものお話しです
何故、坐禅が釈尊の教えの神髄とされたか
人種・言語を超えて、そう確信する方々がおられたか
Let me tell you about it in the first place.
Why was zazen considered to be the essence of Buddha's teachings?
Why were there people who were convinced of this, regardless of race or language?
私達の内面
「外界の印象」と「記憶の泉」が映ってます
身体全体、あるいは頭骨
その閉じた立方体の裏面
それが鏡のようになってる

Impression of the outside world and "fountain of memory" are reflected

では、この鏡の奥に何があるのでしょう ？
頭骨であれ身体であれ
私達の内面は、この内側に展開してます
その奥は、身体の表面でしょうか
Tシャツならば、裏側の奥は表面です
Then what is behind this mirror?
whether skull or body
Our insides unfold inside
Is the back of it the surface of the body?
If it is a T-shirt,
the back of the back side is the surface of the T-shirt.

では現実はどうなってるのでしょう？
外界の印象と記憶
これを映し出す、頭骨や身体
その奥には 「 破壊の炎 」 とも言える
圧倒的な火が燃え盛っている
So what's the reality?
Impressions and memories of the outside world
The skull and body, which reflect this
Deep within it is a "flame of destruction", an
An overwhelming fire is burning
「 破壊の炎 」 とはどう言う意味でしょう？
創造と消滅、消滅と創造
その根源と言えます
What do you mean by "the flames of destruction"?
Creation and annihilation, annihilation and creation.
We could say it is the root of all of these.
美しい秋の訪れ
それが何故可能となるのでしょう
元気一杯の夏が、ことごとく姿を消すからでしょうか
A beautiful autumn
How is this possible?
Is it because a summer full of energy
disappears at every turn?
春夏秋冬、生老病死
これに限らず、一瞬一瞬が死に伏してる
Spring, summer, autumn and winter,
birth, old age, sickness and death
Not limited to this, every moment is dying
この根源の炎を、内面に所持してる
しかし、とてもそうとは感じられません
何故でしょう？
それと向き合うとは、
恐怖と不安に向き合う事に他ならないからです
I possess this root flame inside of me.
But it doesn't feel very much like it.
Why is that?
To face it is to face our fears and insecurities.
この圧倒的な恐怖と不安
これと対峙する
ここに、そもそも坐禅とは何なのか？
その答えがあります
This overwhelming fear and anxiety
confront this
What is zazen in the first place?
