時節のいまだいたらざりし

正法眼蔵 辨道話（ １０６）
とうていはく、
このような問いがなされました
This question was asked
「 わが朝の先代に、教をひろめし諸師、
ともにこれ入唐伝法せしとき、
なんぞこのむねをさしおきて、ただ教をのみつたへし 」
我が国に、仏の教えをお伝えなされた先人方
Those who have brought the teachings of the Buddha to our country
中国へ渡り、仏の教えを受領なされた
He went to China and received the teachings of the Buddha.
何故、坐禅を伝えず、お経のみを持ち帰ったのでしょうか
Why did they not teach zazen, but only brought Buddhist sutra?
しめしていはく、
この問いに対する答えです
The answer to this question.
「 むかしの人師 nin-si
この法をつたへざりしことは
時節のいまだいたらざりしゆえなり 」
その方々が坐禅を伝えなかったのは
伝わる時に至っていなかったからです
The reason those people did not pass on zazen is
Because they had not yet reached the time
when it could be transmitted.
